Zephyr Hats: Texas Edition

This week: the University of Texas Longhorns! The following have been done so far: Auburn, BYU, CU, Detroit Red Wings, Edmonton Oilers, Florida Gators, Georgia Tech, Hawaii, Iowa, the "J" Edition, Kentucky, Kansas, Louisville, Michigan, North Carolina, Oregon, Penn State, Quebec, Rutgers, and Stanford!

 To begin, we have two of the three Headliner snapbacks from Zephyr. Left, the Black Headliner; and right, the Original Headliner. The cursive font on the front, as well as the logos on the side, are raise-embroidered. In contrast, the phrase "Longhorns" is regularly embroidered.

 To the left is the Texas Longhorns Front Runner snapback, a two-tone snapback similar to the Refresh, that has a raise-embroidered Longhorn centered on the crown. Behind it are three lingering lines; the middle line highlights the phrase "HORNS." Other qualities of this hat include its contrast button and eyelet, green under-brim, and square brim.

Below, the Texas Razzle snapback, which evidences  its many qualities in the picture. Both the script on the front and the logo on the side are raise-embroidered.

To the right is one of Zephyr's more finely-stitched hats: the Texas Rally snapback. This features the precise, raise-embroidered word "Horns," as well as the longhorn logo below it. Other characteristics include contrast button and eyelet, dual-colored snaps, and green under-brims.

Below, the Longhorns X-Ray snapback, which has some notable qualities: dual-colored snap, raise-embroidered word "HORNS" in the back, and the x-ray effect on the longhorn logo across the front of the crown.

 Because summer is a great time to wear white, Zephyr released a line during the summer of 2012 called the White Upshot. Essentially the same as the original Upshots, the Texas White Upshot differs in that its colorway has been overtaken with white, and it has a green under-brim instead of grey. Raise embroidery on the cursive font and the longhorn logo are two other note-worthy facets of this hat.

Below, the simple, yet popular, Texas Shadow Script snapback. It almost resembles the Upshot, but has an attractive simple look to it.

 To the left and right are examples of the Blockbuster 2 snapbacks for the University of Texas, these have square brims, green under-brims, raise-embroidered longhorn logos, regularly-embroidered script, one-colored snaps, and contrast button and eyelets.

Right, the unique and rare Texas Hype snapback. Why unique and rare? First off, around the right front panel is piping, which creates a contrasting effect from the other panels. Next, the contrast stitching on the brim is not seen very often, and then the incredible raised embroidery on the word "TEXAS" and the longhorn logo. The under-brims are green and the snaps are one-colored. Another unique characteristic worth nothing is that the front two panels do not have eyelets.


Last, but not least, is the Texas Longhorns Superstar snapback, seen above. The bold font on the front of the crown is raise-embroidered, while the phrase "University Of" is regularly embroidered. Also raise-embroidered is the longhorns logo on the side. This is by far the most popular snapback design for a Zephyr snapback. Zephyr Hats: Stanford Edition

This week: Stanford University Cardinal! The following have been done so far: Auburn, BYU, CU, Detroit Red Wings, Edmonton Oilers, Florida Gators, Georgia Tech, Hawaii, Iowa, the "J" Edition, Kentucky, Kansas, Louisville, Michigan, North Carolina, Oregon, Penn State, Quebec, and Rutgers. Whew!

First off, the Stanford Refresh snapback. Featured on the front is "The Tree," which is the Stanford Band's mascot that has become generally associated with the school. Stitched with raised embroidery, the design is, as far as I know, one of Zephyr's exclusive graphics, and will not be seen on any other brand's hats. The hat also includes a square brim, green under-brim, contrast button and eyelets, and dual colored snap (see picture below). Also on the back is the raise-embroidered word "Stanford" with a black outline. For all of Stanford's Zephyr snapbacks, check Hatmonster.

Stanford's sports teams are commonly known as Cardinal, referring to the dark red color, NOT the bird. To the left is Stanford Shadow Script snapback, a two-tone snapback with all the extraordinary qualities of a Zephyr hat: raised embroidery on the slanting, cursive script; contrast button and eyelets; raise-embroidered Stanford logo; made with 35% wool and 65% acrylic. Acrylic is a wool-like material that better withstands sun deterioration, and is a comfortable fit. This hat also includes a one-colored snap and a square brim.

The overwhelmingly popular snapback design from Zephyr is their Superstar snapback, which seen above featuring the Stanford Cardinal. The bold, raise-embroidered font across the front of the crown says "Stanford," while the raise-embroidered Stanford alternate logo is placed on the side. To the right is a Stanford Blockbuster 2 snapback, which is somewhat similar to the Superstar snapback design. The Blockbuster has a regularly-embroidered script that has a three dimensional effect, as well as a raise-embroidered Stanford logo. Other characteristics include: contrast button and eyelets, square brim, and green under-brim. There is another colorway for Stanford in this same design.

Above, the Stanford Front Runner snapback, which is essentially the Refresh snapback with three background lines.

To the right is the Stanford Headliner snapback, which features the raised, cursive script saying "Stanford," as well as a regularly stitched word "Cardinal." Depending on the time of purchase, the brims of this hat could either be round or square. All of these hats had one-colored snaps and green under-brims.

Some designs that I did not include in this post were the Supersonic, Rally, and X-Ray snapbacks, all outstanding and stylish designs.

Zephyr Hats: Rutgers Edition

This week: Rutgers Scarlet Knights! The following have been done so far: Auburn, BYU, CU, Detroit Red Wings, Edmonton Oilers, Florida Gators, Georgia Tech, and Hawaii, Iowa, the "J" Edition, Kentucky, and Kansas, Louisville, Michigan, North Carolina, Oregon, Penn State, and the Quebec Nordiques.

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights Flashback Snapback

Left, The Rutgers Scarlet Knights are featured in the snapback design called the Flashback. This wavering script across the front is accompanied by the Scarlet Knights logo, both of which are finely and regularly embroidered. On the side of the crown is the "R" logo, and on the back is the word "Rutgers" in the same wavering font. Also exclusive to this design is the "Z" is not embroidered, but placed on a tag near the snap. This design was made with round brims and green under-brims, one-colored snaps, and definite uniqueness.

 Above are three shots of the Rutgers Scarlet Knights Superstar snapback. The stellar raised-embroidery is shown on the word "Rutgers," and the Scarlet Knights logo on the side. This snapback design is by far Zephyr's most popular hat. Superstar snapbacks are now made solely in square brims, green under-brims, contrast button and eyelets, and one-colored snaps. To the right is the Rutgers Upshot snapback. This snapback design has the slanting, cursive script in raised-embroidery along with regularly stitched logos and related phrases. This hat has contrast button and eyelets, square brims, GREY under-brims, and one-colored snaps.

Because of the lack of Rutgers hats made, this is the last one I will be covering: the Scarlet Knights Black Headliner. As many of you know, there are three different versions of the Headliner. From the picture, one can tell why this is called the "Black Headliner." Also featured on this snapback hat is contrast button and eyelets, dual-colored snap, square brim, green under-brim, and raised, cursive embroidery.

Below, is the Rutgers Refresh snapback hat, which features the Scarlet Knight in raised embroidery, as well as the word "Rutgers" on the back in raised embroidery. A key characteristic is the dual-colored snap and the contrast button and eyelet.

Zephyr Hats: Quebec Edition

Back to the NHL: the Quebec Nordiques edition of Zephyr hats! I have done the following so far: Auburn, BYU, CU, Detroit Red Wings, Edmonton Oilers, Florida Gators, Georgia Tech, and Hawaii, Iowa, the "J" Edition, Kentucky, and Kansas, Louisville, Michigan, North Carolina, Oregon, and Penn State.

Below is the Quebec Nordiques Blockbuster 2 snapback that was done with a white crown, unlike the other colorway for this style. This design features raised embroidery on the Nordiques logo under the arching script, and regular stitching on the words "Quebec" and "Nordiques." From the picture, you can tell the design was made with square brims, one-colored snaps, and contrast button and eyelets. The under-brims of  all the Blockbuster 2 snapbacks are the ever-popular green.

To the right is Zephyr's Quebec Nordiques Shadow Script snapback, a design which is, in essence, what its name is: a script with a shadow. The shadow is regularly stitched, while the curisve "Nordiques" and the Nordiques logo is raise embroidered. The Shadow Script snapback design has square brims, green under-brims, one-colored snaps, as well as contrast button and eyelets. As far as I know, this design was made solely in Bangladesh with 35% wool and 65% acrylic.

Above is an example of Zephyr's Hype snapbacks; this Quebec Nordiques Hype features some unique hat qualities. Around the front right panel is white "piping," which stands out a few mm's to give the hat some contrast. The front two panels also do not have eyelets, because the raise-embroidered word "Nordiques" and raise-embroidered Nordiques logo are in the way. The last unique characteristic to point out is the contrast stitching on the brim. Not too many Zephyr snapbacks have this, making this a must-have for collectors.

Left, and right, are Zephyr's Superstar snapbacks for the Quebec Nordiques. While these pictures show round brims, they are now solely made with square brims. Gotta love the big, bold, raise-embroidered script in the front.

To the left is snapback design that came out around late 2011/early 2012 called the Upshot. To be honest, I don't think I have seen the Quebec Nordiques Upshot until I did this post. Slanting across the front of the crown is the raise-embroidered cursive word "Nordiques, accompanied by the regularly stitched word "Quebec" and logo for the Nordiques. This snapback design has square brims, GREY under-brims, and one-colored snaps. In contrast, the White Upshot program of 2012 has green under-brims.

Above is another great snapback design from Zephyr, called "The Razzle." The picture answers any questions about the color and structure of the Nordiques Razzle snapback. One thing worth noting is the dual-colored snaps, which all Razzle snapbacks feature.

A few other hats for the Quebec Nordiques that I did not include were the Original Headliner, Black Headliner, X-Ray, and the Silver Slash.

Zephyr Hats: Penn State Edition

This is a continuance of a team-oriented series that included: Auburn, BYU, CU, Detroit Red Wings, Edmonton Oilers, Florida Gators, Georgia Tech, and Hawaii, Iowa, the "J" Edition, Kentucky, and Kansas, Louisville, Michigan, North Carolina, and Oregon. This week is dedicated to Penn State.

First, this Penn State Shadow Script snapback. The slanting cursive script was made with raised embroidery, as well as the school logo placed below it. This two tone snapback also features contrast button and eyelets, a square brim with green under-brim, and a navy-colored snap in the back. The reason behind the name of this snapback style is obvious: the cursive script is accompanied by a lingering shadow. This picture does a really good job of capturing the colors and the three-dimension embroidery.


The Penn State Upshot, left, and the Penn State White Upshot, right, are examples of two out three styles of Upshots. The third, the UpShock, will be available in early 2013, and is the ultimate attention-grabber with it's bright neon colors.

Above, and right, are two colorways of the Superstar snapback made by Zephyr for Penn State. Zephyr's Superstar snapback design were made with round brims for a while; however, in the middle of 2011, they transitioned to square brims, and now over 90% of their snapbacks are made with square brims. Retailers such as Lids still order round-brimmed snapbacks (like this one) for some reason. The Superstar design is one of the most popular Zephyr snapbacks.

One of the first snapback designs that Zephyr did, and one of their most unique snapback designs, was the Flashback. This Penn State Flashback snapback does not have a "Z" embroidered on the side of the crown, but placed on a tag near the snap in the back. While there is not any raised embroidery, the detail of the stitching is incredibly fine. Other stitching on the crown includes a Penn State alternate logo on the side, and the words "Nittany Lions" above the snap. This design had round brims with green under-brims.

Here are two versions of the Headliner snapback for Penn State. Raised cursive embroidery at its finest; you can see more details of the PSU Black Headliner, above, and the PSU Original Headliner, right, on eBay.

The Original Blockbuster, right, and the Blockbuster 2, left, are two of my favorite snapback designs from Zephyr. Main difference: the Original has round brims, and transparent script; the 2nd version does not.

These last two Penn State hats are the Razzle snapback (left) and the Xline Refresh snapback (below). The Razzle was made a raise-embroidered font that swivels down the crown. Also raise-embroidered is a Penn State logo on the side opposite the "z." All the Razzle snapbacks were made with dual-colored snaps and square brims with green under-brims.

The Xline Refresh snapback below features Zephyr's Exclusive graphics, which are far more extraordinary than Penn State's common Nittany Lion logo. One can decipher from the picture below most details of this hat; the words "Penn State" on the back have been raise embroidered, as well as the logo on the front. Zephyr has done exclusive graphics for a number of Refresh snapbacks.

Zephyr Hats: NDSU Edition

I originally planned North Dakota State University for "N," but later thought that North Carolina was a much better choice.. so here you have some what I was intending to do.

Left, right, and below, are three versions of NDSU's Superstar snapbacks; the first being made with a wool-like material, while the others are made with the traditional materials. All these versions have square brims and green under-brims.

Left, the North Dakota State University Supersonic snapback, which is a unique three-tone snapback featuring Zephyr's notable raised embroidery as well as design. The raised-embroidered "NDSU" is accompanied by the stitched word "Bison." This style was originally made with round brims, but has since then been made with square brims. Other aspects of this hat include the green under-brim, contrast button and eyelets, and two-colored snap (black and yellow). Also embroidered on this hat is the embroidered Bison logo.










Above, and left, are the two versions of the NDSU Blockbuster 2 snapbacks. The logos are raise embroidered while the script is regular. Both have contrast button and eyelets, square brims, and green under-brims.

These were some gems I found on eBay: two colorways for NDSU's NCAA Division I Football Championship after beating SHSU 17-6. Both have square brims, one-colored snaps, and contrast button and eyelets.

We all know that "summer time is a great time to wear white," so Zephyr released the Summer 2012 White Upshot program, including NDSU's. These are essentially the same as the original Upshots, except for the obvious color change, material change, and under-brim color. The White Upshots have green under-brims and are made with 100% cotton, while the originals had grey under-brims and were made with 35% wool and 65% acrylic. The slanting, cursive script across the crown is raise embroidered; everything else is regularly stitched.

Above is the incredibly embroidered NDSU Rally snapback. Not only is it finely stitched, but the embroidery is raised to give the snapback a 3-D effect. Other characteristics include a square brim, two-colored snap, and green under-brim. To the right is the NDSU Refresh snapback, a two tone snapback with the raise-embroidered Bison logo on the front of the crown. It has contrast button and eyelets, square brims, green under-brims, and two-colored snaps.

The NDSU Shadow Script snapback is pictured left. This two tone snapback features a slanting, cursive script across the front of the crown that is raise embroidered, as well as the Bison logo under it. It also includes contrast button and eyelets, square brims, green under-brims, and one-colred snaps.

Lastly, and one of my favorites, the NDSU X-Ray Snapback! The embroidery in the front and back are both raised, which add to the swag of this hat. The picture sums up the hat very well!
