Space Release: Major Tom Zephyr Strapbacks

5.. 4.. 3.. 2.. 1.. blast off. Zephyr once again has brought a phenomenal style from another galaxy - the space-inspired Major Tom. If you remember moon boots, then you probably realize why it is associated with outer space. Not only is the crown made of a reflective silver material, but the visor is metallic black.

The Major Tom has a black and white embroidered best selling logo for a team or school. Below is the group shot for nine of the ten Major Tom strapbacks on shop.zhats.com. The back features a familiar Zephyr font of the mascot name; the strap in the back matches the visor in that it has a metallic visor.

Zephyr Hats: Menace Edition

A couple of weeks ago, there was a huge turn in the snapback world. Before then, I think it is safe to say that the "snapback craze" had slowed down considerably. But a few weeks ago, Zephyr came to the plate and hit a grand slam with a new style - and the "craze" seemed to be revived for many people after that - the Menace. Every Menace hat has a unique undervisor specific to the school/team mascot. The Menace has two-colored snaps, and unicolor button and eyelets. There has been talk that Zephyr will release the Menace in a fitted version as well. It's available at Lids, as seen below, and will be in over 150+ colleges and all NHL teams.

To revive this old habit, I will update the alphabet series I started nearly one year ago; from there, I may just expand upon that series and make posts specific for all teams and colleges. Zephyr Hats: Youngstown State Edition

Sorry I haven't posted in a LONG time, but I really needed to finish up the alphabet series I started back in May of 2012. I believe the only letter I haven't used is "Y," which is a hard letter to do, but I remembered Youngstown University! Check it out!

For those of you who may be lost, Youngstown State University is an urban research university located in Youngstown, Ohio, United States, and was founded in 1908. Zephyr's two hats they stock for Youngstown are the Animal Style snapback (pictured right), and the Equalizer snapback (see below). The Youngstown State Animal Style snapback has their Penguin mascot raise-embroidered on the front; there is an elephant/cement print on the red brim of the hat; the under-brim is grey, as pictured. The button of the hat has the elephant print, so as to match the brim. On the back of the hat, one can see the dual-colored snap, which is black and scarlet; also on the back is the raise-embroidered word "Penguins."

The Youngstown State Equalizer Snapback is a clean-looking hat due to the super-fine embroidery of the equalizer bars. Also raise-embroidered is the word "Penguins," which is placed underneath the equalizing logo. As one can see, the under-brim is the authentic green, and the snap in the back is the solid scarlet.

Zephyr Hats: ZHL Edition

Well, in conclusion of the alphabet-oriented series of blog posts, for "Z" is a line of hats Zephyr made called the ZHL Collection. These teams do not exist; they are random, awesome, and sometime witty! Seen above are my top three ZHL teams! Some designs I will not include in this post are the Shinjuku Sumo's snapback and the Sea Bay Narwhalers. See all the ZHL hats on Hatmonster.com.

This first hat is for the Coppermine Caribou, featuring an angry caribo that looks like he is about to body check someone with his hockey stick. As you can tell, this snapback is two-tone, has contrast button and eyelets, a dual-colored snap, as well as additional script on a side panel. To me, this looks like it could be a Christmas-type of hat with the caribou resembling one of Santa's reindeer!

What could be more fierce than a Sasquatch with a hockey stick? While that question is not exact, what is exact is that this snapback hat stands out so much with its the clear and definite embroidery. This hat, too, is two-tone, has contrast button and eyelets, and additional logo of a sasquatch footprint on a side panel. One unique characteristic is the the dual colored snap in the back (black and nuclear green).

The Scott Island Squid snapback hat for the ZHL is another great design that pops off the crown of the hat. This time, a giant squid holds the hockey stick. Just like the others, this hat is two-tone, has contrast button and eyelets, a dual-colored snap, and 3D raised embroidery. One quality that all these ZHL hats have is the original grey under-brim.

Zephyr Hats: Jabari Parker Commits to Duke!

How does this relate to Zephyr Hats? Well, as most basketball fans know, Jabari Parker, one the nations highest ranked high school basketball players, made his commitment to Duke University today live on ESPN. During the opening scene, the camera glided by five Zephyr snapbacks representing his top five colleges he would consider attending. Although he didn't put his Duke Superstar hat on immediately following his verbal commitment, but held a Nike Duke shirt, I am excited to see how this event will effect Zephyr. The following is footage of his commitment (you can see some of the other hats on the table towards the bottom-right of the screen):

Zephyr Hats: Xline Edition

Hey everyone, sorry I haven't posted in a while.. You are probably wondering what this "Xline Edition" is going to be.. well, all the exclusive graphics that Zephyr has design and put on snapback hats, most of them will be here! Check out all the other posts in the "A-Z Series!" Chose from the following: Auburn, BYU, CU, Detroit, Edmonton, Florida, GT, Hawaii, Iowa, Kentucky, Kansas, Louisville, Michigan, North Carolina, NDSU, Oregon, Penn State, Quebec, Rutgers, Stanford, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and Whalers!

There was a series of hats that Zephyr released around March 2012 that consisted of a college's mascot with a snapback; with Arizona State, Zephyr was able to redesign Sparky as well, which is seen in all three colorways here. Want to buy one? Find them on Hatmonster based off crown color: maroon crown, black crown, and yellow crown. All have green under-brims, contrast button and eyelets, and dual-colored snaps.

To the right is another example of a Zephyr Exclusive Graphic Design, Nebraska's "Mad Kernel," as featured on a Grey Refresh. Zephyr's "Mad Kernel" can be seen on the X-Ray, Refresh, Game Changer, Front Runner, and Animal Style. All those snapback designs have square brims; however, the under-brim color will vary. The Animal Style has a grey under-brim, while the rest have the common Kelly-Green. This Xline from Zephyr is probably one of more eye-catching designs out of all of them.


Left, the Notre Dame X-Ray snapback, with the exclusive graphic of a leprechaun. Eric Johnson, the Zephyr Graphic Artist who designed this logo, has a blog post about this very logo. Like Johnson says, "Zephyr makes many different variations of hat styles with this logo," which you can see on Hatmonster in the Notre Dame section.

Below, is a Xline of Zephyr's for he Pittsburgh Penguins, which is seen on the Zephyr Refresh snapback, as well as on the Grey Refresh snapback. What is more unique than an angry penguin with a hockey stick?

Towards the right is the Penn State Nittany Lions Refresh snapback, another Zephyr-designed logo with a fierce lion tearing across the front two panels. The picture answers any questions about construction or colors on this snapback hat. Isn't this Zephyr-designed Penn State logo is so much more appealing than the other one the school frequently uses? This design was also placed on other hat styles, like a knit hat, as well as a multiple curved-bill hats including a white extreme, a twist flex, and a blue dhx. As far as I know, the only snapback with the Xline Lion is the Refresh.

Both the Syracuse Orange and Tennessee Volunteers have exclusive graphics from Zephyr as well; Syracuse even adopted Zephyr's logo they created as their primary logo! Both hats shown are the Front Runner snapback design.

Lastly, Michigan and Zephyr's "M Paw" design, which was one of the first XLines that was made; it is seen below on numerous Zephyr hats. From left to right: the Hype, Grey Refresh, Front Runner, and X-Ray snapback hats. Check out the Michigan section on Hatmonster to see a greater variety!

Zephyr Hats: Whalers Edition

Well, we made it to "W," and that means the Whalers from Hartford, Connecticut. So far, there have been posts on: Auburn, BYU, CU, Detroit, Edmonton, Florida, Georgia Tech, Hawaii, Iowa, Kentucky, Kansas, Louisville, Michigan, North Carolina, NDSU, Oregon, Penn State, Quebec, Rutgers, Stanford, Texas, Utah, and Virginia.

First, the Hartford Whalers Refresh snapbacks, which are featured in two colorways, right and left. Something is spectacular about the logo for the Whalers - a whale accompanied by "ers." Square brims, green under-brims, dual-colored snaps, and contrast button and eyelets are among some of the notable characteristics of this Refresh snapback.

To the right is the Hartford Whalers Swoop snapback, a gorgeous two-tone snapback with a finely-embroidered script that has a swoop. One thing that struck me was how well the team colorway flows with the design of the swoop: it's clean and simple, yet unique and high-quality. Other noteworthy qualities include the contrast button and eyelets, square brim, green under-brim, and one-colored snap.

Is the snapback hat above eye-catching or what?! This Whalers Splatter snapback features a paint splatter on the brim and button as the main quality; however, a white and green snap is another noteworthy characteristic. Also on the back is the raise-embroidered word "Whalers."

To the left is the Whalers Hype snapback, a hat with a number of different unique features. To begin, it has a white piping around the front right panel, which acts as a separator to the dominant blue crown. The script and logo are raise embroidered, while the "Z" on the side is regularly stitched. On the brim, eight lines of contrast stitching are used, which is an unfamiliar quality. This snapback design also has one-colored snaps, square brims, and green under-brims.

To the right is the Whalers Gotham snapback, which fits this snapback design because of the dominant black color on this hat. This design has a tall, raise-embroidered script that says "Whalers," and a regularly stitched word "Hartford." Unique to this style is the embroidered logo on the top of the brim, which is done in the teams color. This snapback design has a black snap, black button and eyelets, green under-brim, and contrast-stitched "Z" on the side of the crown.

Above, in succession, is the Original Blockbuster, the Blockbuster 2, and the White Blockbuster 2 for the Hartford Whalers. The key difference is this: the Original has round brims, a transparent script, while the other two styles have square brims and a solid script. All have one-colored snaps, green under-brims, and contrast button and eyelets.

Left, the Whalers Shadow Script snapback, another two-tone snapback with contrast button and eyelets. This snapback design has the slanted, cursive script accompanied by a shadow (who would have thought?) and one of the Whalers logos. All the other common characteristics of Zephyr snapback hats are featured on this design.

Below, one of the colorways for the Whalers Superstar snapback: the picture clarifies most questions as far as logos, scripts, and colors go.

Right, the Hartford Whalers Razzle snapback, a dazzling two-tone snapback design meant to grab attention with the razzle script. Also placed on the crown is a Whalers logo and the stitched "Z." Other unique qualities include the square brim, green under-brim, dual-colored snaps, and the raised embroidery of the script and logo.

Among other Whalers hats that I did not include in the post are the Headliner, the Equalizer, and many more, most of which can be seen in the Whalers section on Hatmonster.

Zephyr Hats: Virginia Edition

This week is the "V" week; and that means the University of Virginia! If you didn't know, we have been going through the alphabet dedicating letters to colleges and hockey teams. Here's what has been cover already: Auburn, BYU, CU, Detroit Red Wings, Edmonton Oilers, Florida Gators, Georgia Tech, Hawaii, Iowa, the "J" Edition, Kentucky, Kansas, Louisville, Michigan, North Carolina, Oregon, Penn State, Quebec, Rutgers, Stanford, Texas, and Utah! I will only be covering snapbacks, but you can check out the University of Virginia section on Hatmonster.com to see all their fitted/snapback and curved/flat bill hats!

To begin, let's take a look at two of the colorways for Zephyr's Superstar snapbacks for the University of Virginia. While these two hats have round brims, all of Zephyr's Superstar snapbacks have square brims now. Incredible raised embroidery can be found on the script on the front, as well as on the Virginia alternate logo on the side of the crown. Other qualities of these hats include a one-colored snap and green under-brim. 

To the left is a unique hat that is not seen often: the Viginia Cavaliers X-Ray snapback hat. This snapback design includes the x-ray of the Cavaliers logo on the front, and the word "Virginia" in a font that resembles an x-rays. This snapback style has square brims, green under-brims, and dual-colored snaps.

Below, the Virginia Refresh snapback, which again has the raise-embroidered Cavalier logo on the front of the crown. One thing you might not be able to see is the dual-colored snap (black and orange) and the raise-embroidered word "Virginia" in the back.

 Right, the Virginia Cavaliers White Upshot snapback, which was part of a Summer 2012 program that Zephyr did. These have cursive script that are raise embroidered, along with related keywords and school logos. One of the only parts to this hat that isn't white is the green under-brim.

The University of Virginia Razzle snapback has a rather dazzling font that is raise embroidered. This snapback design has a dual-colored snap in the back and a raised school logo on the side of the crown.

Left, the Virginia Cavaliers Front Runner snapback; this two-tone snapback design has the raise-embroidered Cavalier logo on it, as well as three background lines, the middle line highlighting the word "Virginia." Besides this, the hat is fairly general: one-colored snap, square brim, green under-brim, and contrast button and eyelets.

Below, the University of Virginia Cavaliers Blockbuster 2 snapback. This script is not raised, but regular; however, the Cavaliers logo is raised. The back has the same regular embroidery as the front and says "Cavaliers." One-colored snaps, square brims, and contrast button and eyelets are among noteworthy characteristics.

 The last snapback design I will post is the Virginia Cavaliers Shadow Script snapback, a two-tone design with the cursive, raise-embroidered word "Virginia" on the front that's accompanied with the schools logo.

Zephyr Hats: Utah Edition

Let's see, we are all the way to the "U" edition, the University of Utah. If you didn't know, we have been going through the alphabet dedicating letters to colleges and hockey teams. So to begin, let's check out the Zephyr Superstar snapbacks for the Utah Utes! Because the Superstar snapback design Zephyr's most popular design, it has been done in multiple colorways; above, and right, are just two examples of them. One other popular colorway is the White Superstar. These all are now made strictly with square brims and green under-brims, contrast button and eyelets, and the immaculate raised embroidery on the word "UTAH," and the Ute's logo on the side. The snapback to the right is probably my favorite of the three.

Above, and left, are the two versions of the Blockbuster 2 snapback for the University of Utah; these two-tone snapbacks feature regular embroidery on the main script of the snapback, as well as raised embroidery on the Utah logo. On the back, above the snap, the regularly embroidered word "UTES." Both versions of this snapback design was made solely with square brims, green under-brims, and one-colored snaps. The Blockbuster 2 was preceded by the Original Blockbuster, which has the same script with a transparent effect.

Above is an example of the Utah Black Headliner snapback, one of three styles of the Headliner. This particular version is blacked-out, and features raised, cursive embroidery. One particular characteristic to note is the dual-colored snap in the back.

Right, the Zephyr Upshot snapback for the Utes! It has the same cursive lettering as the Headliner, except is accompanied by other parts to the Upshot layout. A particular characteristic is the GREY under-brims, instead of the popular green.

 Above, the Utah Refresh snapback, which finely places the Ute's logo on the front with raised embroidery. Also raise embroidered is the word "Utes" on the back. The snap is dual-colored (red and black).

Left, the two-tone Utah Shadow Script snapback, which again features a cursive script that is raise embroidered that is accompanied by the raise-embroidered Ute logo. Other qualities include a square brim, green under-brim, one-colored snap, and contrast button and eyelets.
